THE DUNHUANG
MUSIC AND DANCING PAINTINGS
This
series of large and medium-sized oil paintings by Zhiwei Tu, only a few
of which are reproduced here, was
inspired
by the ancient Dunhuang cave murals,
first thoroughly discovered
by
archeologists only a few decades ago, when artist Tu was a graduate
student. The Buddhist cave paintings are more
than 2,000 years old and depict a
lively
culture of music, dancing, love, and enjoyment of life. Read more about the Dunhuang cave murals here.
