On June 19, 2007, Tu Zhiwei was interviewed and answered viewer questions sent in on-line to Tom.com about his one-man show at the National Art Gallery of China, hardships faced by Chinese artists in America, and his decade-long project to paint 10 grand murals about seminal events in Chinese history and lore. The over-arching theme of the exhibit is mankind's indominable spirit as seen through Chinese history and exemplified by the artist's own life. 涂志伟：独在美国画中国 Shenzhen Economic Daily (May 17, 2007), has a short retrospective on Tu Zhiwei, the artist, that includes an amusing anecdote rarely heard. When, as a young man, one afternoon he was carrying painting frames, brushes, and equipment on the back of his bicycle, Tu found himself being stopped by a policeman in the nearby county seat of Wengyuan County. "You aren't allowed to haul such large things on a bicyle," the policeman said sternly. "What is your name?" he demanded. "Tu Kwan," the boy replied. "You're the painter, Tu Zhiwie?" the surprised policeman asked. So famous was the boy, even then, that the policeman immediately let him go on his way -- without a ticket. 涂志伟旅美油画展 Tu Zhiwei's murals and other oil paintings are featured in a one-man exhibition at the Shenzhen Museum of Art in Shenzhen, China, May 17-27, 2007. (Dec. 2004) 涂志偉--敦煌樂舞藝術講座 The Hareyama Center for the Arts, Taipei, staged a one-man show and lecture series on March 19, 2003, exploring the history and art of Tu Zhiwei's "Dunhuang" series of paintings.
